LATEST BOOK

Our member David Turner, a guide at Southwell Minster, has long been interested in the visit of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey to Southwell in 1530.  He has written an historical novel Letters from the Cardinal.  It is a series of  imaginary letters written to Thomas Wolsey, but based on known facts drawn from various sources.

It is planned to publish the book in the Autumn of 2017, the proceeds of which will go towards the Leaves of Southwell Project.

Southwell & District Local History Society Chairman, Mike Kirton, presenting cheques totalling £270 to Robert Beckett the Secretary of Southwell Branch of the Royal British legion.  The money has been raised from the sale of books: ‘Southwell & District at War, 1939-1945, We’ll meet Again’, ‘Lord Byron’s Best Friends’, donated by the author, Geoffrey Bond, and a donation for a talk given by the Chairman to commemorate Armistice Day.
